The Airbus A340-300 is the first model of the A340 series, its fuselage has the same diameter as the A300. Its first flight was made on October 25, 1991 and obtained European certification in December 1992 and American certification in May 1993. Its passenger carrying capacity is from 295 to 440 passengers. It was put into service in March 1993 by Lufthansa, the launch company, which ordered 15 of them in 1987, and is no longer in production today, the last flight having taken place in September 2008 with a private Russian customer.
