Planeurs et avions Maurice Brochet 2è édition
Maurice Brochet is one of the men who made and marked the history of light aviation. After a first gliding flight carried out on the grounds of the Institut Aérotechnique de Saint-Cyr-l'École, Maurice Brochet made a glider of his own design and obtained his pilot's licence for non-powered aircraft on 22 novembre 1931. He then builds three Avia 32-E gliders in 1933, transforms an Avia 15-A glider into a glider with an auxiliary propulsive engine named MB 20 (MB for Maurice Brochet) then a version with a tractive engine named MB 30. Maurice Brochet then specializes in the construction and repair of gliders and begins the realization of a two-seater version of the MB 30 which will remain unfinished on the eve of the Second World War.
After 1945, Maurice Brochet resumed his repair activities and completed in 1947 the construction of a single-seater aircraft designated MB 50. The following year, on 24 juin, a two-seater tandem version designated MB 60 takes off from Chavenay airfield. This was followed by the MB 70 and MB 71, which made their first flights in 1950, then an improved and enlarged version of the MB 70, the MB 90 for towing gliders. Finally, the MB 100 and MB 120 were offered for travel, followed by the MB 110, a four-seater equipped with a 170 hp SNECMA engine.
Several Pike planes are still flying today including an MB80 registered F-PGLA based in Montdidier, an MB83 registered F-PGLF based at Uzès aerodrome, an MB83 registered F-PGLH based at Marmande Virazeil... and others still at Angleterre !
Maurice Brochet is a craftsman engineer ingénieux ; his creativity and willingness are to be compared to those of Jean Délémontez (JoDel) and Jean Chapeau (Indraéro 101) whose productions have greatly contributed to the development of light aviation in France. In this book, his work and achievements are placed in the historical context of the beginnings of engine-free flight and small aircraft up to popular aviation, the period of occupation and then the revival of light aviation.
