Radionavigation and IFR. The Basics - Volume 1

€23,33

This book is part of a collection of 3 volumes dedicated to radionavigation. It is intended for those who wish to improve their knowledge in the field of radionavigation. It can also serve as a reference for the instructor, who will find material to illustrate his course. With the exception of most of Chapter 1 on mental arithmetic, this book will be very useful to any private pilot.

In this volume, we étudierons :

- the calculation mental ;
- the materialization of the position in espace ;
- the different methods of change of axe ;
- and the classical means of radionavigation (VOR, HSI, DME, ILS, ADF, RMI...).

This knowledge will allow us to study in the next volume, the IFR and GPS trajectories. Even if GPS is becoming more and more important today, as demonstrated by the growing number of RNAV procedures, it is still essential to know how to use these classical means of radionavigation. Not only are these means still widely used today and, indeed, still in the training programme of a private pilot, but their study through the CDI, HSI and RMI is useful because they are also used by GPS. It is, moreover, with the help of these same indicators that we can respect the prescribed trajectories, the scrolling map displayed on a screen being present only to provide additional information.
The use of these classic means of radionavigation is explained with emphasis on materialization and on a few simple basic principles which, once acquired, will make it possible to easily solve all problems.
Perfect mastery of radionavigation and the materialisation of the aircraft's position in space require serious training, first in the simulator and then in flight, which is consequently costly. This book will enable the student to acquire the basic knowledge indispensables ; the student will thus be more available, especially during the first flights.
The presentation, illustrated by numerous diagrams, is intended to be as simple as possible, sometimes using analogies. In addition, numerous corrected exercises will enable the reader to check his knowledge and to make the course his own by developing his own experience.

The other volumes are consacrés :

- for the volume
: IFR and navigation by satellites ; II  - for the volume III : flight director, autopilot, EFIS, weather radar, stormscope, augmented vision equipment and finally HUD (Head-up Display : head-up display).
